    Question

    Hi everyone,

I was just wondering what would be the best home tele-cine available? I am strongly considering purchasing the elmo cl16 and ambico transfer unit such as this:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=23780

    maybe $300 for both.

Will this combination produce anywhere near a quality professional tele-cine transfer?

    thanks

If you want to spend money, look into Roger Evans' telecine equipment on his site

    Moviestuff

These are supposed to be excellent machines and have gotton great reviews by the other forum members. They are pretty expensive and the only reason I don't have one yet, but they will work much better than the home transfer box. If that's all you are planning on doing, just film your projected image on a white matte background using a variable speed projector (not far from the white background) and video tape the projection. With a variable speed projector it will transfer without flicker because it will compensate for the shutter speed of the camera not corresponding to 18 or 24 fps.

This method isn't great, but gets your stuff onto a tape and doesn't look horrible at al. The biggest issue is cropping the image properly with the video camera so you don't see projector scum on the edges and so that you don't cut out too much of the image. That's where it gets tricky.

I use this method to transfer old home movies because it works and costs me nothing to do it, plus after being edited in the computer they look pretty good. If i'm shooting a film, I'll get it professionally done or but one of Roger's machines. Good luck in whatever you choose.

There's only one way to go, and that's Roger Evan's Workprinter mentioned above.
Anything else, and you're just going to end up with a big pain in the keester, and inferior results.
